+ What can I expect after my surgery?
Each individual’s experience is unique, but you will most likely experience periods of discomfort and fatigue. It’s crucial to get plenty of rest after your surgery. Your body needs this to fully recover. The mastectomy might also leave you feeling out of balance. That’s why it’s so important to find the right products for your body.
+ Why do I need specialized mastectomy products?
During the weeks immediately following surgery and radiotherapy, most women have sensitivity around the breast or breasts. Special fabrics are used in post-operative bras to protect sensitive skin and even promote the healing process.
Once healed and returned to normal daily life, many women find that the missing weight of their breast leaves them feeling out of balance. This can lead to muscle-skeletal problems in the back, neck and shoulders. Our bodies also have a natural tendency to overcompensate for this lack of balance by leaning to one side or curving the back. Mastectomy products help to prevent and alleviate these issues.
+ What types of mastectomy products will I need immediately after surgery?
Post-operative bras and initial care breast forms can be worn immediately after surgery to provide comfort and even promote the healing process.
Post-operative bras—Post-operative bras are made from extra-fine micromodal fabric that protects your sensitive skin. A practical front fastener also makes them easy to take on and off during your recovery period.
Compression bras—For women who have had a breast implant, compression bras can be worn to help to stabilize the breast and promote the healing process.
Initial care breast forms—Initial care breast forms can also be worn immediately after surgery to emulate the natural shape of a breast. Made of cotton or microfiber, they are ideal for the period immediately after surgery when the body is sensitive to pressure and touch.
+ What types of mastectomy products will I need after I have healed?
We offer an array of specialty products that can help you feel and look your best after breast surgery, including lingerie, camisoles and even swimwear. Some of the most popular products for everyday use include partial or full breast forms and post-mastectomy bras.
Partial breast forms—Partial breast forms help to restore the natural shape and symmetry of your breast after a lumpectomy. They are curved to match your body shape, providing a natural, balanced look.
Full breast forms—A full breast form (sometimes called a breast prosthesis) is used to simulate the natural shape and weight of your breast. It can be worn inside a post-mastectomy bra or attached to your body with special adhesive pads, depending on your preference. It is essential to be properly fitted for a form so that it is discreet and provides the proper physical and visual symmetry.
Post-mastectomy bras—A post-mastectomy bra is designed to give you the natural, beautiful shape that a traditional bra offers. While it looks and feels like a traditional bra, it has unique features designed specifically for women who have undergone a mastectomy. Some of these features typically include pockets, which hold breast forms in place, fuller cups to accommodate the forms, and wider straps and bands to give your body the support it needs.

+ How soon after my surgery should I be fitted for my mastectomy products?
It is critical to give your body the time it needs to heal before being fitted for a breast form or a post-mastectomy bra. Every body is different, but the typical time frame is six to eight weeks after your surgery. Be sure to consult with your physician before being fitted.
+ Why do I need to be fitted for mastectomy products?
Wearing improperly fitted products can lead to an array of complications. It is crucial that the products are right for your circumstance and your body. An under- or over-weighted form can create an imbalance, leading to poor posture and other muscle-skeletal issues. It also might look unnatural in comparison to your natural breast shape.
A poorly fitting bra can restrict blood flow, and even impede the flow of lymph fluid, which could contribute to the formation of lymphedema.
